Tesco to sharpen its focus

The price tag for the supermarket’s opticians, which was launched in 1998 in Peterborough and has grown to 209 stores in the UK and Ireland with a £90million turnover last year, was not disclosed.

If approved by competition authorities, its 1,500 staff will transfer to Vision Express.

Tesco has already sold off operations in South Korea and Turkey as well as restaurant chain Giraffe and Dobbies Garden Centres.
