At last month’s Brazilian Grand Prix, members of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes team were robbed at gunpoint in Sao Paulo and a planned tyre test was scrapped after staff were targeted.

Hamilton tweeted at the time: “Gun shots fired, gun held at one's head. This is so upsetting to hear. It happens every single year here. F1 and the teams need to do more. No excuse." 

The British driver later added that more needed to be done to keep people safe.
